This week's Tuesday Trip Report won't be happening -- it poured last Friday and we didn't reclimb Caps Ridge Trail as planned. Hope to get out this week...the girls and I are itching to explore something we haven't already seen, so perhaps we'll head to Maine and climb through Mahoosuc Notch.
In the meantime, here are some announcements.
We will take on the John Muir Trail next summer (2014) in honor of Feeding America. We hope to raise $2104 for this nonprofit organization -- ten dollars for every mile we hike. We hope to also raise money for a local food-assistance charity, but I'm not ready to discuss the details of that just yet. Stay tuned.
Also -- we plan on highpointing Utah this year, which will bring our total to 43 out of 50 states. We may get Idaho as well....or we may not....Hugh and I each have a conference in Colorado and we're fitting the highpointing in between talks. If we have time to head north and brave Chicken-Out Ridge, then we will. Otherwise, Idaho's Borah Peak will have to wait until 2014.
Next year, we'll finish the John Muir Trail on Whitney, the highpoint of California, so we'll have 44 or 45 highpoints by fall 2014. After that, who knows. We may or may not get all 50 states. Both girls say they want to get all 50, but they're eight and ten years old at the moment and I can't say for sure they'll definitely want to learn what they'd need to know in order to summit the likes of Rainier and Denali. Utah, California, and Idaho are the last of our "walk-ups" -- the final five highpoints (Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska) require more advanced skills. We'll see.
Last, but certainly not least -- I'm so excited for the Women's Leadership and Adventure Summit in Golden, Colorado! Can't tell you how honored I am to be involved with Peaks Foundation! More on that later this week -- fun times ahead!
