The forecast called for afternoon thunderstorms; the girls and I decided to tag one of the easier 52 With a View peaks so we could be back at the car before the storms arrived.
We went up the western part of the loop, since we wanted to get the steepest bit out of the way first.
The ascent was the usual White Mountain deal -- lots of rocks, roots, and slugs.
We checked out Allen's Ledge on the way up.
The view from Allen's Ledge...
Onward, toward Hedgehog's summit...
Lady slipper...
The summit was marked by a splotch of yellow paint and one lonely rock.
We sat, ate, and enjoyed the views.
We lounged about until the black flies discovered our existence, then we hightailed it out of there.
Passaconaway loomed over us as we descended the eastern part of the loop.
Can you see the frog in this picture? :)
The eastern section of the UNH has a lot of ledges..which are called, appropriately enough, the Eastern Ledges.
Views from the Eastern Ledges (here come the clouds!)...
Passaconaway...
Looking back on the summit of Hedgehog...
Heading down...
Don't fall here!
Cool tree...
One small section of the trail was a mess.
Almost there...
We made it to the trailhead just before the raindrops started to fall.
This was a fairly short and enjoyable hike - ideal for those times when you can't spend the entire day out.
